Living a Healthy Lifestyle in the Gym and Kitchen

Leading a healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to be time consuming and complicated. It can be as simple as throwing a few ingredients in the crock pot before you head to work in the morning.

Joe Liestenfeltz of Lake City is this Wellness Wednesday’s “Health Hero”. He is currently training for the Traverse City half-Ironman that is taking place in August. He had done several marathons and was ready to try something new – looking for his next physical and mental challenge.

“Running became a little monotonous for me so I wanted to change it up a little bit. One of my really good friends is into cycling, so I decided I should just try it,” Joe Liestenfeltz says.

Waking up early in the morning to hit the gym isn’t the only priority he has. It’s making healthy meals and prepping them for when he gets home from a long day on the job.

“My job takes up a lot of my time and so I don’t have a lot of time to slave in the kitchen with meals so I just do what’s easiest for me and so throwing it in the crock pot and leaving it for the workday and having it ready when I come home – makes it really easy,” Liestenfeltz says.

It’s all about a healthy balance between the gym and kitchen and Joe shares that it doesn’t have to be for people with lots of time on their hands. It can be for anyone who wants a lifestyle change.

“You have to steer clear of the processed stuff. Anything that’s whole and natural is good. I steer clear of dairy products so i just go with anything whole and natural. Chicken vegetables, fruit, water,” Liestenfeltz say.”
