NMC Extended Education: Festival of Foods, Drone Class, Small Business & Nonprofits

You can find a lot of things at Northwestern Michigan College. Education, new passions, community and more.

Including a few classes and events that might make you want to get in on extended education!

From flying drones to a festival of food and the foundation for human connection, NMC will be soaring with must-see opportunities in the weeks ahead.

Festival of Foods

NMC’s annual Festival of Foods is a big event featuring 16 culinary chefs. Participants can choose three sessions to attend.

Director of Extended Educational Services Laura Matchett says you will not go home hungry, and you will learn a ton.

“This is also one of our favorite events,” she says.

The Festival of Foods will be at the Haggerty Center in Traverse City on Feb. 2.

FAA Drone Class

And NMC faculty is instructing a face-to-face, two-day class that prepares people for getting a certification in flying drones.

“This is an FAA remote pilot certification preparation class so this prepares you to take the certification test,” Matchett says. “You will really receive top notch instruction in this class.

Students will be on campus using the school’s own drones.

The class is Feb. 7 and 8, and costs $749 for the face-to-face version at the Aero Park Campus. The online course is $499. Learn more about both here.

Better Stories by Design

This course is really important for nonprofits and small businesses to learn how to tell their stories, Matchett says.

The instructor walks through how to tell your story in a compelling way that brings people to action and makes them invested in what you do.

It takes place on Feb. 8 at the University Center and costs $49 to register. Head to nmc.edu here to sign up for the class.
