President Trump Cancels House Speaker Pelosi’s Trip Overseas

The longest partial government shutdown in U.S. history is creating dramatic back forth between the president and the speaker of the house.

One day after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi threatened to derail President Trump’s State of the Union address, President Trump postponed her trip to visit troops overseas.

Pelosi argued it could be unsafe to host the State of the Union address before a joint session of Congress because top security agencies weren’t being funded.

In a letter to Pelosi, the president postponed her trip to Brussels, Egypt and Afghanistan just minutes before she and her delegation were scheduled to leave.

He said it would be better if she stayed in Washington to work out a deal to end the shutdown.

President Trump also canceled a White House delegation’s trip to the world economic forum in Davos, Switzerland.
