Sault Ste. Marie Fire, Police Dept. Collecting Food for Federal Workers and Families

The Sault Ste. Marie Fire Department and Sault Ste. Marie Police Department are collecting food to help local federal workers and their families affected by the shutdown.

The food drive began Thursday.

They are looking for any non-perishable food donations, which can be dropped off at the fire department on Ridge Street.

Fire Chief Scott LaBonte says they are doing this to help some of the families that make the Soo such a great community.

“We work with most of these agencies, maybe not on a daily basis, but pretty often and they’ve always been excellent to us, each and every agency that we work with. I think this is just one of the very small ways we can help them out,” Chief LaBonte, said.

They are also hosting a free pancake breakfast for all federal government employees and their families on Saturday January 26th at the Sault Elks Lodge from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The general public will be admitted for a small fee.
