Two Arrested for Attempted Murder, Home Invasion in Leelanau County

We have new information on what deputies say was a home invasion and attempted murder in Leelanau County.

It all happened just before 8 p.m. Thursday at a home on South Kasson Street in Cedar.

The sheriff says they arrested a man and woman, both with a long criminal history.

They’re at the Leelanau County Jail right now waiting to be charged.

The sheriff says the two went into the home in Cedar trying to take money and other valuables.

They say the woman and the family who lives there know each other.

The sheriff says the two also either stabbed or hit three men who also live inside the home.

They were all taken to the hospital where their conditions are not known right now.

The two suspects then took off before being spotted by an off-duty Wexford County deputy near Mesick. They were eventually chased down by Michigan State Police in Manistee County, but not before damaging two MSP patrol cars.

“The individuals who broke into the home, for whatever reason, decided to assault the individuals and maybe attempt to kill them. So we’re going to wait and see what the prosecutor says after he reads the reports and makes his determination, but they’re in the jail and they’ll be arraigned later today,” said Leelanau County Sheriff Mike Borkovich.

Michigan State Police also say they’ll be requesting additional charges.
