Clare Co. Judge: Man Charged With Killing Girlfriend’s Father Guilty of 1st-Degree Murder

A judge decided a man charged with killing his girlfriend’s father is guilty of first-degree murder.

James Kuhns admitted to killing Leonard Hempel.

Hempel’s body was found in his backyard near Farwell in 2016.

In June, Kuhns pleaded guilty to open murder.

Friday a judge said there was enough evidence to call the crime premeditated.

A judge already convicted Angela Hempel for her part in covering up her father’s death.
