Oceana County Historical & Genealogical Society Receives Donation From Late Veteran

Oceana County recently received a gift of $200,000.

Half of that will go to the Oceana County Historical and Genealogical Society.

Local World War II veteran Bill Moyer passed away last April.

He spent most of his later years volunteering at the Oceana Historical Society archiving pictures and organizing new artifacts.

The director of the Oceana Community Foundation says Moyer will leave a lasting legacy in the community for years to come.

“How we remember Bill is this room, right here. All of the work that he did and these binders that are behind me with all of the pictures. So, this is Bill’s legacy, this room right here is holding all the work he did for so many years,” says Tammy Carey.

The society says Moyer’s work to archive historical documents, along with his generous donation, will help them preserve local history for generations to come.
