Jamie McClintic is a Doctor in Alpena who has had profound hearing loss since she was a young girl. With the help of hearing aids, she has been able to make a significant difference not only in Northern Michigan but across the country.

Recently, Dr. McClintic accepted a prestigious award through Oticon, a hearing aid manufacturer who hosts a gala every year where they give recognition to those who have profound hearing loss and are making an impact in their community.

Dr. McClintic was nominated for Oticon’s Focus on People award by her audiologist, Dr. Kristen Kowalski.

“When I first learned of the Oticon Focus on People award – especially the adult advocacy category I immediately thought of Jamie. She is so deserving of this award and I knew she far exceeded the criteria so I knew that she would be a front runner,” says Dr. Kowalski.

After this nomination, the public had the opportunity to vote on who they believed was most deserving of this national award. Sure enough, Dr. Jamie came out on top, winning the award and is now able to keep developing her mission of inclusiveness.

Dr. McClintic has a daughter who made her even more interested in the mission that “Changing the Face of Beauty” focuses on – spreading awareness of children and adults with disabilities.

“My daughter was born with Down syndrome and it is overwhelming and it was a shock and I really quickly learned how fast people can judge you based on how you look. I’ve had hearing loss my whole life and I’ve been able to hide it or mask it and she couldn’t really do that and so immediately it became important to me that others learn what she can do with her abilities,” says Dr. McClintic.
