Gretchen Whitmer Sworn In As Michigan Governor

After nearly two years of campaigning for the state’s top office, Tuesday Gretchen Whitmer took over as the Governor.

Thousands of people on hand for the ceremony in chilly Lansing Tuesday morning.

“There is no place in the world like our state and no people in the world like Michiganders,” says Whitmer.

The big name of the day was Whitmer, the state’s new governor. But Inauguration Day also saw several newly elected positions being sworn in. Attorney General Dana Nessel, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and several judge positions but the majority of the crowd was there for Governor Whitmer.

“Over the past two years, I traveled our state and listened to people’s concerns and the same issues came up again and again and again,” says Whitmer.

She takes over a state with a growing economy but still not challenge free, and will be doing so in divisive political times.

“I’m not saying it’s going to be easy. Many will question whether or not we can protect our families and bolster our economy by fixing those roads,” says Whitmer, “They may not believe that we can solve the literacy crisis and, no doubt, some are betting against us when it comes to closing the skills gap but we are up to it Michigan.”

The ceremony was part official swearing in and part pep rally but now the clock begins on the Whitmer Administration.

“Let’s get to work Michigan,” says Whitmer, “Thank you.”
