On the last day of school before winter break, around 100 Mason County Upper Elementary students headed through the snow to deliver gifts to seniors at the Scottville Senior Center.

“I was so excited I could barely talk,” says Ashton who is in 3rd grade.

Superintendent of Mason County Schools, Jeff Mount says, “We’re building a bond between the children of Mason County Central and our senior center here.”

This bond is forming quickly – they’re already feeling like family! Chloe says with a smile, “Some of the people here reminded me of my Mima and Papa.”

The students are building respect for the older, wiser members of their community.

“I think it’s important for generations to connect with each other and show that appreciation both ways and today was a mutual level of appreciation,” says Superintendent Mount.

The seniors on the receiving end were thrilled to be appreciated — warming hearts and hands with gifts of coffee and hot cocoa.

Dorothy Manley a senior at the Scottville Senior Center says, “It makes everyone feel well and that’s what Christmas is all about. Giving and it’s wonderful.”
