More Cases of Paralyzing Illness Confirmed in Michigan

Michigan is seeing more cases of a mysterious illness that causes paralysis in children.

The state Health and Human Services Department says doctors in Ottawa and Macomb counties diagnosed children with acute flaccid myelitis.

Cases of AFM have already been reported in Oakland and Wayne counties.

AFM presents symptoms similar to polio, but it’s not clear what is causing the spread.

We do know that symptoms appear after the children had a fever or respiratory illness.
