Isabella Co. 4-H Begins Beekeeping Club for Students

A new club will soon be buzzing around Isabella County.

The Isabella County 4-H program is starting a beekeeping club.

Thanks to a grant from the Mount Pleasant Area Community Foundation’s Kellogg Youth Fund, the club will soon have their own hives to work with.

Students will learn things like hands-on beekeeping techniques and about unique business opportunities.

Beekeeping instructor Karl Geiger says it will begin with in-house classes.

“We will talk about the steps in beekeeping. We will start with a little bit of the anatomy of the bee and then go into frames and parts and then I will get them in the workshop and build all this stuff. And from there we will start hands-on into the hives.”
