Newaygo Public Schools Meeting With Lawyer Over Christmas Display Controversy

Newaygo Public Schools says it will be making changes to a beloved Christmas decoration.

It comes after the Michigan Association of Civil Rights Activists complained the display is a violation of church and state.

Sitting on top of Newaygo elementary school are the three wise men, facing the star of Bethlehem.

A display that’s been a tradition for decades.

The school board heard public comment on the situation Monday.

Members went into a closed session.

And WOOD TV 8 reports when they came back said they have “no desire to remove the display.”

But that they would think about ways to change it to reflect of the district’s goals.
