State Union Negotiations Hampered by Restricted Subjects

Public-Sector Union leaders say that recent contract negotiations with the state were “one-sided” and difficult.

This was due to a new list of off-limits subjects including scheduled overtime, job transfers, and recalls.

These changes are from the 2017 Civil Service Commission’s 3-to-1 vote to change the rules for collective bargaining.

All three yes votes were by Governor Rick Snyder appointees.

Union leaders say they were able to negotiate pay and benefits with the state….

But that it’s upsetting dramatic changes could be made without input from workers.

Across the state, there are more than 30,000 people a part of Public-Sector Unions.
