Republican Led Legislature Working on Bills to Take Power From Democrats
In January Democrats will hold the governorship, attorney general and secretary of state offices for the first time in nearly 30 years.
Right now the Republican-led legislature is working on bills that would strip power from the incoming Democrats.
One would have a bipartisan commission oversee campaign finance, instead of the secretary of state.
Another would give the legislature power to intervene in any lawsuit, a right already granted to the state attorney general.
It would ensure Republican’s ability to support laws if incoming Democrats drop appeals in cases the state loses.
Republicans say it would give the chambers a voice as more public policy issues are addressed in the courts.
Democrats call it a power grab…
The move came just hours after similar efforts to strip control from Democrats in Wisconsin.
