Hook & Hunting: Late Ruffed Grouse Season

Late ruffed grouse season is underway here in Michigan and runs until January 1.

The DNR says this time of year is perfect for ruff grouse hunting, especially if there is snow on the ground, making them easier to track.

Look around for cover or near pine trees as the grouse will be trying to stay warm.

if you have already been hunting this year then you already have the licenses needed to hunt ruff grouse.

“Everyone that hunts in Michigan already has the license they need. So if you’re a deer hunter and you still want to get out and get some hunting in, that base license that you purchased is all you need to ruff grouse hunt in Michigan,” says Katie Keen, wildlife communications coordinator for the DNR said.

Remember to keep your hunters orange on while hunting in the woods with a firearm.
