Hook & Hunting: Firearm Season Brings Boom in Business

We’re halfway through the firearm season and many hunters are heading to Northern Michigan to bring home a buck.

It’s one of the most popular places in the state to hunt. DNR checks stations, like one in Gaylord have had a steady stream of successful sportsman.

And those traveling hunters have also given a bump to local businesses, like the new Big Buck Brewery in Gaylord.

“We’re seeing a lot of the hunters, we’re seeing them come in a little bit later after the hunt, or between the hunt, they’ll go hunting in the morning, come here they’ll eat and they’ll go back out in the woods. So we’ve had an awful lot of hunters both local as well as people who are traveling to the area. It’s a dead giveaway when they come in their camp or hunters orange which has been, I love to see them,” owner Shawn Smalley said.

Firearm season comes to an end November 30.
