DEVELOPING: North Carolina High School Reports Malfunctioning Water Heater Sounded Like Gunfire
The active shooter situation has turned out to be a malfunctioning water heater and no shots were fired.
The emergency management director at Pender County said the water heater was taken for the sound of gunfire at Topsail High School this morning, forcing the school in lockdown.
A North Carolina school district is on lockdown.
Reports say an “active shooter situation” was reported at Topsail High School around 6:30 a.m. Friday morning.
There have been no reports of injuries yet and a shooter has not been identified.
Topsail High School is about 20 miles north of Wilmington.
