Major Brent Taylor Dies Serving Country as Utah Mayor, National Guard Solider
One of a man’s final acts as both mayor and soldier was to call for Americans to come together.
Major Brent Taylor served his country both at home and overseas.
He had been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan four times.
Major Taylor had been awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his service.
He was one of 15,000 U.S. troops still fighting in Afghanistan, a war that’s lasted over 17 years.
Before his last deployment, he shared a message on social media saying; “ours is a small sacrificed compared to what so many throughout our nation’s history have done.”
Last week he made the ultimate sacrifice.
He was shot and killed by an Afghan soldier during an insider attack.
He posted again last week before his death calling for unity.
He wrote, “We have far more Americans that unite us than divide us. I hope everyone back home exercises their precious right to vote.”
