M-72 in Grand Traverse County Reopens Following Serious Crash

M-72 in Grand Traverse County is back open after a 4-car crash sent several people to the hospital.

One person received life-threatening injuries.

Crews say it could have been caused by a reckless driver. 

The sheriff’s office says it happened Friday afternoon on M-72 near Bates Road in Acme Township, but have not officially said what caused the crash.

Everyone hurt was taken to the hospital.

Crews on the scene say they got a report earlier in the day of a reckless driver in the area.

They say the driver was allegedly going more than 100 miles per hour, swerving in and out of lanes.

“We did have one witness that observed a green vehicle that was westbound traveling at a high rate of speed,” said Captain Chris Clark with the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office. “We’ve deployed our accident investigation team so that we can determine the actual details of the crash.”
