Black Star Farm’s Winery Wins Best Overall Riesling in International Competition
One of their wines has been dubbed the best out of 567 submissions from six countries, proof the wine industry across Northern Michigan is growing and thriving.
Sherri Fenton, with Black Star Farms in Traverse City, says their 2017 Arcturos Dry Riesling won Best Overall Riesling at the 2018 Canberra International Riesling Challenge. An incredible achievement.
It was only the second time in the competition’s history that an American wine came out on top.
“It means kudos to the fantastic growers,” she says. “The people that work our vineyards and take care of them, and manage those vineyards. And our wine making teams.”
Their 2017 Arcturos Dry Riesling also took home Best Dry Riesling and Best American Riesling.
It is not only a big accomplishment for Black Star Farms, but also for the entire Traverse Coast Wine Region. A region that Fenton says could one day be considered one of the best in the world.
“As everyone in the region receives more awards and more notoriety, and more recognition that we are doing something excellent here, I think that we will be known as one of the major wine producing areas of the world.” Fenton says.
Blackstar’s 2017 award-winning Riesling is not available for purchase yet, but you can get on the waiting list.
