Police Searching for Man Accused of Threatening to ‘Blow Up’ Republican Party Headquarters in Grand Traverse Co.
Staff and volunteers were allowed to return inside the Michigan Republicans Office in Traverse City hours after party officials tell us someone made a bomb threat Wednesday afternoon.
Police are now trying to track down that man.
The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office cleared the scene and did not find any bombs.
The Grand Traverse County Republican chair says a little after 3, a man came in ranting and holding a sign that said ‘Trump is Satan.’
But after that is when he tells me the man said he should bomb and blow them all up.
After they said they were going to call 911 the man took off running.
The sheriff’s office tells me within minutes, they had multiple cars searching the area.
“Take it serious this day and age you can’t be relaxed on it you gotta take it serious. We don’t know how serious this guy is, probably not that serious, but it’s a distraction. We have elections six days away we need to be working at doing that not working about things like this,” Republican chair John Roth said.
Roth tells us the man is a white male in his 60s, about 6’3” and heavy build, salt and pepper hair and a short beard and he was wearing a Carhartt jacket.
We did also learn that state representative Jason Wentworth saw the man drive off in a beige or light green sedan with several bumper stickers.
Again crews are still out searching but a bomb dog has been through here and everything here is clear.
