Hook & Hunting: Fish Stocking Numbers for 2018

The DNR released its fish stocking numbers for 2018.

More than 21 million fish were planted this year.

The DNR says it made nearly 400 trips to about 800 stocking sites across the state.

The Harrietta-Oden and Platte River State Fish Hatcheries accounted for nearly 4 million fish.

The DNR hopes it will expand fishing opportunities statewide.

“That’s a huge advantage for the fisherman and for the economy. You know we’re looking at planting these fish to several different reasons, to help the prey predator relationship to make sure we have a balanced ecosystem and it gives different opportunities to fish out there in the environment,” says fisheries manager Jon Jackoviak.

The DNR says they plan to plant around the same amount of fish next year.
