Habitat for Humanity Breaks Ground on Home for Northern Michigan Family

After living in an unfinished basement for a year and months of waiting, the project to bring this Northern Michigan family a new home officially broke ground.

This summer we brought you a story about the Monteith family.

They were having trouble being approved for a new home.

In June Habitat for Humanity selected them for its homeowner partnership.

Fast forward to Friday, the Monteith’s and Habitat for Humanity held a groundbreaking ceremony.

It’s a vacant lot now, but this will soon be the site of their new home in Maple City.

And for dad, Kyle it’s the happy ending at the end of a very rough road.

“To put a roof over my family’s head it’s been a struggle so without this program we wouldn’t have been able to dream of having a house of our own,” Kyle said.

The Moneith’s will need to put a certain number of hours of work into the house.

But earlier Friday they were already prefabricating the walls.
