International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day Creates A Safe Space For Families, Friends

Suicide has impacted many families in Northern Michigan, like the Wardies, on a personal level.

Friends and family of those who have died by suicide have a special day to gather together known as International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day on Nov. 17.

The is hosting an event at New Hope Community Church in Williamsburg from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 17 to create a safe space for survivors of suicide loss. A light lunch will be provided at the end.

It will include a short screening of the Journey Documentary Series, which tells the real stories of people who lost a loved one to suicide. .

Janeen and Ron Wardie are field advocates for the AFSP who lost their son to suicide. They say a recent awareness walk in Traverse Ctiy has raised nearly $90,000 for educational training programs.

Talk Saves Lives is one such preventative program, which covers the warning signs and strategies to prevent suicide.
