Man Who Admitted to Role in Deadly Antrim Co. Crash Awaits Sentencing

The man accused of causing a deadly chain-reaction crash that killed two people in Antrim County is expected to learn his punishment Monday.

The sheriff’s office says last July an SUV was trying to turn left off of East Torch Lake Drive near Walling Road when another SUV slammed into it from behind, rolling it on its side into traffic.

Then, a motorcycle crashed into the flipped SUV.

Brian Koppe pleaded guilty to reckless driving causing death last month.

The driver of the motorcycle was Kevin Copeland, a beloved local pilot.

He and his passenger, Erica McCurry from Clinton died.

In exchange for a guilty plea from Koppe, an additional charge of reckless driving causing death and two charges of moving violation were dropped.

He will be sentenced Monday morning, stay with Northern Michigan’s News Leader for updates.
