Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Washington D.C. Cardinal Donald Wuerl.
Wuerl was connected to the cover-up of two major sexual abuse incidents.
Wuerl, who’s 77, is one of the most notable leaders in the Catholic Church connected to the controversy.
His predecessor, Archbishop Theodore McCarrick was forced to resign over sexual abuse allegations as well.
No immediate replacement has been named.
