in Newberry has two new young additions to their family.

They were rescued from the Grand Teton National Park.

Park superintendents removed the cubs and their mother after they caught two visitors illegally feeding them last week.

Feeding wildlife is a serious offense because it puts both the animals and the people at risk, yet the visitors still did it, despite warning signs all over the park.

The mom was about 4-5 years old and experts decided she could not be moved to a zoo or similar facility, so unfortunately, rangers had to put her down.

Her two cubs though, will live the rest of their lives in Northern Michigan.

“A fed bear is a dead bear, so they thought they better take them out of the park and we were recommended by the ZAA, Zoological Association of America, which I am a member. They arrived, it took them 12 hours a day for three days and they were here. They brought them in last evening. They’re in good shape, they’re about 45 pounds and they’re already eating out of our hands, so that’s a good sign,” said Dean Oswald.

Oswald’s Bear Ranch is closed for the season, and will reopen Memorial Day.

The maximum penalty for feeding park wildlife in Wyoming is a $5,000 fine and up to six months in jail.
