Community to Gather for MSP Sgt. McNamara’s Visitation

A Northern Michigan community is saying goodbye to a Michigan State Police sergeant Friday.

Sergeant Peter McNamara died in his sleep Wednesday morning. 

A visitation starts at 1 p.m. Friday and runs until 8 p.m. at the Steuernol and McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch.

Sergeant McNamara spent 30 years with the Michigan State Police, 19 of them at the West Branch post in Ogemaw County.

The post commander describes McNamara as the rock of the post, always friendly, dedicated and approachable.

McNamara’s funeral will take place Saturday at noon at Ogemaw Hills Free Methodist Church in West Branch.
