One Dead After Three Fishermen Rescued From Manistee River

A possible drowning this morning on Manistee River has left one man dead.

Three fisherman were about a mile from the Highbridge Boat Launch when their boat struck a tree trunk, throwing all three men into the water.

Two of the men were able to swim to shore, however the other could not.

The two men started CPR until Manistee Country Animal Control Officer, JR Nelson, took over.

The man ended up being turned over to EMS and all three men were sent to Munson Manistee hospital.

They are waiting on autopsy results to determine the true cause of death.

The Manistee County Sheriff’s Department tell us the three fishermen include a 63-year-old man from Waterford, Michigan, a 61-year-old man from Wabash, Indiana and a 53-year-old man from Hilliard, Ohio.

However we have not been told which man was the one to pass away.

The sheriff’s office does tell us that the men were not wearing life jackets and alcohol is not believed to have been involved.
