Lake County Lions Club Sharing Grant Money Between Local Food Pantries

In late August destructive storms tore through Northern Michigan and left food pantries and other organizations without power.

They lost a lot of their perishable goods.

The local Lions Club in Lake County applied for a $10,000 grant to recoup losses after the storm.

The money will be divvied up between several food pantries and the Saint Ann Senior Center in Baldwin, which runs the county’s Meals on Wheels program.

One pantry says the help came just in time.

“It was a big blessing. We were able to repurchase the fresh items that we lost and also to replace some of the regular grocery stock that we purchased because we had a bit of an increase from families coming after the storm,” the Bread of Life co-director, Lynne Mills said.

The grant was approved by the Lions Club International Foundation.
