Hook & Hunting: DNR Discusses Start of Archery Deer Season

This week marked the start of archery season for deer hunters in the state of Michigan.

The season runs from now until November 14 and picks back up in December.

The DNR says they expect around 300,000 hunters to take part in archery season and harvest around 125,000 deer.

They say deer licenses are still available if you want to get into the woods and also encourage you to bring your deer into one of the check stations they have across the state.

“We’d love to be able to see your deer, we can age it for you, take some measurements that we really need for our data, and if you’d like to submit the head for testing you can do that at that time and we give you a collectors patch to say thank you for coming,” said Wildlife Communication Coordinator Katie Keen.

The DNR says Michigan is the top state in the country for deer taken with archery equipment.
