UPDATE: Tugboat ‘Defiance’ Freed After Running Aground in Mackinac Island Port

We have an update on a tugboat that ran aground in a Mackinac Island port.

The U.S. Coast Guard says water current freed the vessel ‘Defiance’ from the clay bottom in Round Island Passage early Saturday morning.

The Cleveland-based tugboat had left Cedarville and was heading to Buffington, Indiana when it ran aground.

Our Mackinaw City Skycam captured video of ‘Defiance’ after it got stuck Friday afternoon.

The vessel was not damaged.

The Coast Guard says there were no injuries, pollution or flooding caused by the grounded vessel.

It was cleared to proceed on its voyage, and the waterway is now open to all traffic.

The grounding is under investigation.
