Hook & Hunting: Liberty Hunt for Children, People With Disabilities

Kids under the age of 16 and those with qualified disabilities will have an early opportunity to hunt this weekend.

The Liberty Hunt this weekend allows young hunters to go out with an adult to mentor them.

It’s a way to get more people under the age of 16 into hunting, and helps them learn the right way to do things.

It also allows disabled veterans and the blind to get out and hunt deer.

The DNR encourages those who do harvest a deer, to bring it in to receive a deer patch, especially if it’s their first time.

The patch is great for young hunters to keep for memories.

“It’s produced every year and all we do is take some data, ask you a few questions about your hunt and for going out of your way to give us that information, we give you a patch,” Katie Keen, DNR wildlife communications coordinator said.

The bag limit is one deer, and a deer or deer combo license can be used for bucks or does.

The Liberty Hunt is this Saturday and Sunday.
