Congressman Moolenaar Visits Clare for Rural Broadband Discussion

Congressman John Moolenaar was in northern Michigan on Tuesday talking about how to increase access to broadband internet in rural areas.

The congressman met with internet providers, community leaders and others in Clare working to bring high speed internet to more parts of the state.

They talked about problems that seem to stall expansion, including cost of installation and government regulations.

The congressman also wanted to hear what possible solutions there are to these problems in northern Michigan.

“I think this idea of partnerships, we had people from the private sector, we had people from the government, we had the USDA Rural Development, we’re going to have $600 million in a pilot project to see what we can do to move the ball forward in rural broadband,” said Moolenaar.

Congressman Moolenaar says he hopes to see funding to expand broadband access included in the new farm bill.
