Clare Police Chief Cleared of Wrongdoing Following Investigation

The Clare police chief has been cleared by the county prosecutor of any wrongdoing surrounding an investigation into possible LEIN violations.

The investigation circled around a 2017 request Chief Brian Gregory gave to one of his officers to do a background check.

The prosecutor says Chief Gregory did not break the Law Enforcement Information Network, or LEIN, protocol.

The prosecutor says the allegations against him are without merit and that he investigated the matter like any officer would.

The prosecutor’s opinion document also lists accusations of a hostile work environment surrounding the Clare Police Department.

We’re reaching out to Chief Gregory about being cleared and about accusations of a hostile work environment.

Chief Gregory is expected to be back on the job Friday after being on paid leave since the start of last month.
