Hook & Hunting: Waterfowl Hunting Clinic in Cadillac

Most waterfowl hunting seasons are weeks away, so there is still time to brush up.

You can learn to call geese at the Outdoor Skills Academy at the Carl T. Johnson Center during their waterfowl hunting clinic.

This A to Z class will cover everything you need to know to get started, from selecting the right gear, to setting up decoys.

A local Michigan conservation officer helps teach the class and wants everyone to be safe on the water when you’re out hunting waterfowl.

“You’re still held to all laws boating, so if you are in a kayak or in a boat you still have to have a life jacket with you. And it’s a good idea anyways, especially if you are wearing waders and you tip over and your waders fill up it can be very dangerous so we recommend wearing these instead of just having it with you. If you go in you are going to be scrambling to get your gun, so quick tip, have this with you,” says Bill Haskin, Michigan DNR conservation officer.

The waterfowl class is Saturday, September 29 at the Carl T. Johnson Center.

And the DNR is warning waterfowl hunters that there may be some maintenance in areas where water levels are low.
