What’s Growing With Tom: Week 20

The weather garden is in great shape so it’s time to check back on our Apple Tree and Food Plot.

Good news about the apple tree, it’s still alive with leaves on it. The Rose Chafers worked on it in the spring and ate a lot but we sprayed and killed them off. The tree is still growing so there isn’t a problem but we want to get it ready for winter.

Treen’ Shrub is the plan with another bag under and around the tree. Justin says to make sure you spread under where it the roots are now and also where they will be in the future.  He said scratch it in and water immediately if you can.

The good news is the apple tree is OK for hunters with the new bait ban next year. So you can grab some trees and plant them around your hunting blinds and stands.  Just remember to keep them protected until it’s grown a few years, deer do love the trees. They also love what we have growing in the food plot.

Just walking towards it you can see the lush green plants! It’s really coming in, even with the dry summer we’ve had! You can see how much the Food Plot Doo made this plot pop! Justin says the carbon, organic matter, and humates all mixed in stuck to the sandy soil made the difference.  Odds are we’ll see some nice deer eating it sometime soon!
