Missaukee Co. Sheriff’s Office Search and Find Dementia Patient

“You always want to bring it to a conclusion so you can bring families back together.”

The Missaukee County Sheriff’s Office spent most of the night searching for a 81-year-old dementia patient.

The woman walked away from her house on South Call Road in McBain around 7 p.m.

Police were called shorty after family was unable to find her.

The search went until 3 a.m. Sunday morning before they called it off.

They started searching again and found her around 9 a.m.

A deputy found the woman in their neighbor’s cabin.

The undersheriff, Wil Yancer, says she was disoriented but was okay.

“So she must have wandered into the cabin after we searched it. Obviously the alternative is not what anybody wants that outcome. So to go back and be able to tell him we found his wife and she’s okay is very satisfying,” said Yancer.

The Missaukee County Sheriff’s Office was also assisted with state police and the K-9 unit to find the woman.
