Munson Medical Center Kicks Off Public Campaign for Largest Expansion in History

Those in Traverse City were celebrating on Thursday for the public phase of the campaign for the largest expansion in Munson Medical Center’s history.

The Family Birth and Children’s Center at Munson Medical Center will be one more piece of the puzzle they are putting together to expand their care.

The new center comes with an over $80 million price tag but $27 million has already been raised.

It will be a brand new building on Sixth Street with a new maternity unit, neonatal intensive care unit, cardiovascular services and much more.

“I really think that the cornerstone of healthcare lies in women and children,” said Dr. David Wright, chair of Munson Medical Center Foundation. “I’ve always been a big believer in that and I think this new facility is going to really forecast that and really emphasize that and I think the community will be very proud at what we’re looking at doing.”

The project has been in the works for three years and they expect the public phase to be two years.
