President Trump Weighs In On Conviction of Former Campaign Chairman Manafort

President Trump commented on the conviction of another person close to him, his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

Manafort was facing 18 charges related to financial crimes, stemming from his consulting work in Ukraine.

On Tuesday, a jury found him guilty of eight of them including tax and bank fraud.

Prosecutors have until next Wednesday to decide if they want to re-try Manafort on the remaining 10 charges.

This is the first conviction for special counsel Robert Mueller in the ongoing investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

President Donald Trump weighed in Tuesday night saying he “feels sad” about Manafort’s conviction, going on to say the Russia investigation is still a “witch hunt and a disgrace.”

Manafort is facing up to 80 years in prison in this case.

He’s also due back in court on similar charges in Washington D.C. later this year.
