Grand Traverse County Prosecutor Awarded Munson Medical Center Community Health Hero

Seven Munson Healthcare hospitals named their 2018 Community Health Heroes.

One award went to a familiar face, fighting a growing epidemic in Northern Michigan.

Munson Medical Center in Traverse City just honored Grand Traverse County prosecutor Bob Cooney with the Community Health Hero award.

They wanted to recognize his work fighting the opioid crisis in Northern Michigan.

Cooney has brought law enforcement together with education and health care to find a new way to battle the growing issue.

He created the Grand Traverse County Drug Free Coalition and is the director of the first Northern Michigan chapter of Families Against Narcotics.

“Seeking solutions that address the core problem, which is addiction and abuse, is not just good in terms of safety and law enforcement it also is making a difference in the lives of individuals and their families,” said Cooney.

Cooney says he’s received many awards in the past but this is special.

He credits the efforts of many people dedicated strengthening the community.
