Lake City Community Stays “Harper Strong” for Girl in Hospital
“Father, we pray today for Harper. It’s been a long road.”
The Lake City community coming together Sunday to support Harper Smith.
Harper, just four years old, has been at DeVos Children’s Hospital for more than three weeks battling a severe intestinal infection.
The Lake City community continues to rally around her family, and today they held a spaghetti dinner fundraiser in McBain to help cover medical costs.
There was also a silent auction and a live auction to help raise money.
Another way the community is showing support is with “#HarperStrong” stickers, which you’ll see on the helmets of many local high school football teams this year.
Harper’s dad is Lake City’s head coach.
“It’s overwhelming to see all the support we’re getting from not ouly our community, but the surrounding communities,” said Vicki Reid, who organized the dinner. “It’s been wonderful.”
Harper’s mother posted on Facebook Saturday that Harper was brought in for emergency surgery.
We’re told she’s out of surgery and doing well.
If you would like to help the family, you can send a donation to Tammy Smith, P.O. Box 341, Lake City, MI.
The family asks that you put “Harper” on the memo line of any donations you send.
