A way to limit notifications, a new way to track your social media activity and a daily reminder to limit your screen time.
Earlier this month, Instagram and Facebook announced new tools designed to help people manage their time on social media.
Instagram and Facebook say they hope the new tools give users more control over the time they spend on the social media platforms and helps conversations between parents and teens about the online habits that are right for them.
To find the new tools, navigate to the settings page on either app. On the Instagram settings page, tap “Your Activity.” On Facebook, tap “Your Time on Facebook.” You’ll then see a dashboard displaying your average time for that app on that device. You can dig deeper by tapping any bar to see your total time for that day.
Users also now have the option to set a daily reminder to give you an alert when you’ve reached the amount of time you want to spend on that app for the day. You can easily change or cancel the reminder at any time.
You can also use the “Notification Settings” to access the new “Mute Push Notifications” setting to limit Instagram and Facebook notifications for a period of time, perfect for when you need to really focus.
Facebook and Instagram say they developed the new tools based on collaboration and inspiration from mental health experts and organizations, academics, research and feedback from their social media community.
