A day after the party picked their nominees for governor and the US Senate, the Michigan Republicans hosted a Unity Rally in Grand Rapids, with Vice President Mike Pence leading the cries to unite the party.

“Tonight we send a message all across the state of Michigan that Republicans are united,” said Pence.

In front of hundreds of Michigan Republicans, the Vice President stressed the importance of coming together to focus now on the Democrats in the general election.

“And the truth of the matter is Republicans have got to come together,” said Pence, “And that’s really what tonight is all about.”

After the party debated who should be their nominee, in the end, the winners were the two nominees endorsed by President Trump and Vice President Pence, John James and Bill Schuette. President Trump has already called the two to congratulate them on their wins.

“He assured me that, ‘Bill when do you want me to come in to Michigan to campaign?'” said Schuette, “I told the President, I want you to come here to Michigan and you’re going to help me be Governor.”

As the race truly begins, history is not with the GOP. Just one Republican Senator since 1980 and they haven’t elected back-to-back Republican governors since the 1960s.

“I’m here to tell you right here right now come November the red wave is coming right through Michigan,” said Pence.

Schuette then dropped a bombshell in the press briefing afterward. When asked if you had an idea on his running mate, he said us that he couldn’t tell her name yet which shows that it’s going to be a woman.
