It can be scary for families to have a baby in a long-term stay at the hospital.

Nancy and Jim Dawson had their baby girl, Josey, when Nancy was 25 weeks pregnant.

The family ended up staying at the for several weeks—resentfully at first—then gratefully.

9&10 News’ own Michelle Dunaway is getting ready to on Sept. 6 to support the RMHWM and families like the Dawsons.

, a bike rental, sale and service business in Traverse City, donated time, effort and a bike to Michelle’s upcoming ride.

She received not only a bike that’s sure to help her in the long miles ahead—but also some tips on how to ease the toll.

“The three key points are your contact points with the bicycle, so where you connect your shoes the seat and the handle bars,” owner Tim Brick says. “So what you want to do is get those as comfortable as possible. So we are going to look at a comfortable pair of gloves and riding shorts and riding shoes that interface with the pedals, which you also have. Then we’ve got to do some placement of you over the bicycle, over the pedals, get your reach to the handle bars correct so you’re really dialed in.”

Generous sponsors are helping Michelle’s ride possible, and the community has a chance to help support Michelle or joining her on a few practice rides before the big day.

The first of the practice rides was Wednesday, along the TART Trails.
