Meet Skyler Wilson, 16, of Kewadin, the eighth winner in the Bikes for Kids program happening this summer. Wilson’s teacher, Kathy Moody-Breece, nominated Wilson because of her dedication to the community and selflessness while overcoming challenges of her own. Moody-Breece said she has watched Wilson persevere through her own setbacks and struggles, “and through it all, she still has the vision to make others’ lives better.”

Wilson played an integral role in organizing a fundraising team for Relay for Life, and raised close to $1,000 in donations. Other volunteer endeavors of Wilson’s include: Elk Rapids Garden Club, Noble Pines, Little League softballs, and the Homeless Outreach Program.

Wilson said the satisfaction she gets from helping others is her biggest motivation. “Once you have struggled yourself, you know what it feels like to have someone help you. So, I like to help others and give them that same feeling.”
