Conservation Group Files Petition Challenging Potash Permits

A conservation group filed another petition after the DEQ approved permits for a proposed fertilizer plant in Osceola County.

The Michigan Potash Company is looking to build a plant several miles south of Evart in Osceola County.

Potash is used for agricultural fertilizing.

The DEQ approved permits in June for eight solution mining wells and three non-hazardous brine disposal wells.

A group called Michigan Citizens for Water Conservation is now challenging those permits arguing the process didn’t follow Michigan’s legal requirements.
