Stanwood Couple Accused of Embezzling More than $100K Due in Court

A couple charged with embezzling more than $100,000 from the Village of Barryton is expected in court Tuesday.

Jennifer Lindsey was working as the village treasurer and her husband, Chad, as the public works supervisor, when the village president noticed $2,000 worth of unauthorized gas station charges on a village credit card, other credit cards opened in the village’s name and thousands of dollars missing from their sewer fund.

This is not the first time Jennifer Lindsey has been in trouble, she was convicted of three attempted armed robberies in 2006.

The village president says she was giving her a second chance by hiring her as treasurer in 2013.

If convicted, the couple could face up to 20 years in prison on the embezzlement charge.
