Rep. Lee Chatfield Apologizes After Loaded Gun Found in Bag at Airport
State representative Lee Chatfield is speaking out after an unregistered pistol was found in his bag while he was going through the TSA line at the Pellston Regional Airport.
In a Facebook post Tuesday, Chatfield says he forgot to check his bag before leaving for the airport and had forgotten the pistol was inside.
He also said he did not realize the pistol was not registered through the Michigan State Police database.
In his statement, Chatfield said, “As an elected official, I take responsibility and fully acknowledge that no one is above the law. I am sorry for this honest mistake and can ensure you that it won’t happen again.”
Chatfield also says he has since registered the pistol.
